Planning for a Safe Vacation in Africa
Visit Cities in Africa:
Cairo, Egypt
Cape Town, Africa
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

Africa is considered by some paleoanthropologists to be the most ancient of territory inhabited by the human species. Some scientists believe that fossil records indicate human beings may have been in Africa as early as seven million years ago. By 5000-6000 B.C. man was become civilized, keeping domesticated animals and exploring agriculture. In fact, the Sahara Desert didn't even start to dry until 4000 B.C. By 3000 B.C., agriculture started to arise in various parts of Africa, and the nation steadily progressed toward modernity. By the first millennium of the B.C. era, iron working was introduced to Africa and began to spread across the continent. The first historical record of African begins at 3300 B.C. with the Pharaonic-governed civilization of Ancient Egypt. Today, Africa contains 53 independent countries, most of which still continue to use the same borders as drawn by European colonization.

While some African states are unstable and unsuitable for tourists, there are other states that have democratic governments and support tourism with complete vacation packages. Some vacations have a safari theme for wildlife appreciation, while others are historical tours. Rather than trust a country by their name alone, it's best to keep advised by the country's consulate or your own country's travel department. Often times travel warnings are issued because of instances of war, terrorism or disease outbreaks. The good news is that most countries in Africa you would be interested in visiting have a comfortable stream of tourist traffic and are as safe as any other tourist country.

You can travel to Africa by plane, though scoring a cheap ticket will be a challenge. A common piece of advice that may work for you is to book the Africa portion of your itinerary first and then try planning a trip from an international airport to another airport, rather than book a trip to Africa directly. (Be sure to allow a fair amount of connection time) Once in Africa you can travel by plane (with South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines or Kenya Airways), car or truck. Most tourists will require a visa so ask your travel agent for assistance in this very important procedure.

What is the climate like in Africa? Since the Africa continent is so large, there is a great diversity in "African" weather. The weather of many African countries is of a tropical temperature. However, at its highest peaks, temperatures can reach a sub-arctic level. The northern regions of Africa are arid and desert in climate, while central areas and some southern areas are denser, and can actually support rainforests and wildlife safari areas.

What are some of the highlights you can find in Africa? There is a great deal of safari adventure to be enjoyed in the national parks of Africa. Some of the more popular locations include the Amboseli National Park in Kenya (with the biggest tuskers worldwide), the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, in South Africa and Botswana, which offers big game and raptors, and the Serengeti National Park in located in Tanzania, with its large population of lions. Egypt also has many locations of historical interest such as the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum and the Red Sea Resort.

An African vacation is an experience that is worth traveling a world over to see in person.
