Dublin is an incredibly hip city full of attractions, entertainment and charm. It was made famous in the literature of James Joyce, and more recently gained fame by giving birth to rock super group U2. Dublin is known for its drinking establishments, and there is no shortage of pubs anywhere in the city. Yet the art and music scenes and fantastic shopping give Dublin a very cosmopolitan air.

From St. Patrick's Cathedral to its famous museums and theaters, there are tons of attractions in Dublin. You can also enjoy fantastic food in Dublin at restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Hotels in Dublin

When you search for accommodations in Dublin, you'll be amazed at the variety of choices that are available. There are luxurious accommodations available throughout Dublin, but especially in the south and north parts of the city.

The newly refurbished and just reopened Shelbourne hotel is a terrific option for luxury accommodations. This gorgeous hotel is located in city centre and directly overlooks beautiful Stephen's Green. It is nearby to many of Dublin's historic and cultural attractions, including St. Patrick's Cathedral and Trinity College. If middle-range priced accommodations are more your style, there are many great hotels to select from in Dublin. Dublin Attractions

There is so much to do and see in Dublin, you will need to pick and choose what you will most enjoy. Each attraction has so much to offer, consider restricting your activities to just a few things each day so you have time to thoroughly explore them.

There are many fascinating museums in Dublin. One is the Chester Beatty Library which houses a diverse and intriguing collection of manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, rare books, drawings and decorative arts that was assembled by Alfred Chester Beatty. Articles from all over the world are on display, including works from Asia, North Africa and the Middle East as well as Europe.

If you love modern art, you won't want to miss the Irish Museum of Modern Art. This museum features a diverse collection of modern and contemporary art that it displays in intriguing exhibitions. IMMA also regularly features rotating and temporary exhibitions that include works on loan from other museums throughout the world.

There are also several National Museums in Dublin you can visit. Three that feature fascinating exhibits include the National Museum of Science, the Decorative Arts and History Museum and the Natural History Museum.

There is plenty to enjoy outdoors in Dublin, too, such as the spacious Dublin Zoo and the beautiful Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. If you like sporting events, you can attend a hurling or rugby match, schedule permitting.

There are many historic sites to visit in Dublin, such as St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle and even the General Post Office. An economical way to enjoy many of Dublin's sites is to purchase a Dublin Pass that allows discounts or free admission to many attractions over the course of six days.

Eating and Drinking in Dublin

Dublin is renowned for its pubs, but you may be pleasantly surprised at the variety of excellent restaurants the city also features. It used to be said that you didn't visit Dublin for the food, but this no longer holds true. Whether you're in the mood for Indian, Italian, Chinese, Greek, Spanish, Moroccan or even Mongolian food, you can enjoy a top quality meal in Dublin. Traditional Irish food is also readily available at carverys and restaurants throughout the city.

For a simpler meal, there are sandwich shops and fast-food options, or you can enjoy pub fare in many locations. One of the great joys of Irish dining is the traditional full Irish breakfast, featuring eggs, rashers, sausage, white and black pudding, toast and perhaps a fried tomato or potatoes, too.

Drinking in Dublin

The pubs in Dublin offer something for everyone, whether you prefer a quiet, cozy atmosphere or a boisterous sports bar. You might want to take a pub tour to discover the history behind many of Dublin's oldest drinking establishments.

In Dublin, there are nightclubs, local pubs, live music venues, and even cocktail bars. Whether you are enjoying dinner and a night at the theatre, a simple movie or a popular music performance at a large venue, you'll want to start and end your evening with a drink at one or more pubs. The Temple Bar area is a particularly popular place for tourists to drink and socialize. The Foggy Dew is a large drinking establishment that offers plenty of character and excitement.

Getting Around Dublin

Dublin's public transportation system is easy and convenient to use, and it focuses on the buses. Recently completed tramlines referred to as the Luas are a fast and efficient new form of public transportation, but they currently provide a limited range of service. Taxis are also available, but if you plan to travel throughout Dublin, fees can be rather costly. City Center is compact enough that much of it can be explored on foot.
