Have Fun in Montego Bay on the Beach and Beyond

Montego Bay is referred to as Jamaica's "Second City." It may be the second largest city in Jamaica, but it is surely Jamaica's number one travel destination. Montego Bay is located on the northwestern coast of Jamaica, and tourists flock there by air as well as by sea on cruise lines. From gorgeous beaches along a beautiful coastline to dramatic mountains, Montego Bay has a great deal of natural appeal for visitors.

Montego Bay caters to tourists, from its numerous hotels and resorts to its fabulous shopping, exciting restaurants and fun bars. Beautiful beaches, seaside sports and plenty of sights make Montego Bay nothing short of a Jamaican paradise.

Hotels and Resorts in Montego Bay

Whether you prefer a world-class resort along the beach, or something simpler and less costly in-land, Montego Bay has your ideal accommodations.

At the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort and Spa Rose Hall, you'll enjoy instant access to a beautiful white sand beach, outdoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness room, tennis, and water sports. Of course, you'll want to plan to enjoy the spectacular White Witch Golf Course overlooking the sea. The accommodations are elegant, the service is superb and you can enjoy both casual and fine dining on site.

There are plenty of other resorts to choose from in Montego Bay, many of which offer all-inclusive packages for your convenience. Your food, drinks, resort facilities and entertainment are all included, so you can truly relax and forget all of your cares at the resort.

Many people that visit Montego Bay stay on Gloucester Avenue, which is also called the "Hip Strip." This tourist strip features beaches, restaurants, bars and souvenir shops in addition to hotels and resorts. It is loud, lively and fun, but if you are looking for a quiet place to stay, look elsewhere for accommodations.

Eating in Montego Bay

For food, drink and fun, you definitely want to head for the Hip Strip. There are all types of restaurants in Montego Bay, and you can enjoy fine dining or sample fresh and delicious local fare in small eateries or bars.

If you'd like a simple but delicious meal that won't cost a small fortune, try Le Chalet on Gloucester Avenue. This restaurant is one of the few in the immediate area that offers great food, including Jamaican dishes as well as continental food and Asian dishes. You can enjoy delicious sandwiches or burgers for lunch, and in the evening enjoy a full-course meal including superb curried lobster.

For delicious Jamaican cuisine and elegant, yet rustic charm, leave the Hip Strip behind and head to the Day-O Plantation Restaurant at the Barnett Estate Plantation in Granville. Explore Jamaican spices and taste authentic Jamaican dishes featuring fresh seafood, beef, pork or chicken. There are also vegetarian dishes to choose from at the Day-O Plantation Restaurant.

Montego Bay Nightlife

Nightlife in Montego Bay is high-energy, and your experience can be as wild as you'd like. On the Hip Strip, Margaritaville is one nightclub you probably won't want to miss. This hot drinking spot draws a very mixed crowd, and you'll enjoy drinking and dancing with people of all ages.

Tourists and locals alike come to party at Margaritaville, and it isn't an exaggeration to say the fun never stops. If you dare, check out the 110-foot waterslide that starts at the rooftop terrace and ends in the warm Caribbean below. You can also play on giant water trampolines and splash in a rooftop whirlpool tub.

The night goes on when you cross the street and head to Coral Cliff. Coral Cliff is Montego Bay's only casino, and inside you can visit the Rum Jungle nightclub. The bar is lavishly decorated with waterfalls and live trees, and there is always live entertainment.

If you tire of the Hip Strip, you can always head out to some local bars and nightclubs to enjoy theme nights, live music and fun shows. If you're still in the mood to party and the sun's about to rise, pay a visit to the Doctor's Cave Beach 24-hour nightclub.

Montego Bay Attractions

Partying all night is great fun in Montego Bay, but don't forget to enjoy the many daytime activities there, too. If you've always wanted to try white-water rafting, Canyon River Whitewater Rafting offers the ideal opportunity. You can raft down the Canyon River, enjoying a view of the rainforest along the way.

Another great attraction to enjoy in Montego Bay is Windsor Caves. Whether you're experienced in cave exploring or not, you can enjoy spotting bats and seeing stunning rock formations inside these gigantic caves. If golfing is more your type of adventure then there are several outstanding golf courses in Montego Bay. You can also enjoy cycling, horseback riding and shopping during your visit.

Getting Around Montego Bay

You may find it convenient to rent a car, motorcycle or moped for your Montego Bay vacation, but taxis are also readily available. Tourists should opt for taxis licensed by the government. Tour companies often offer transportation to their attractions, but if you must travel outside the city and you don't have a car, try taxis or perhaps a mini-bus, depending on your destination.
