With many hospital patients currently isolated from family and friends amidst lockdown restrictions, one hotel group is donating iPads to help them stay in touch with loved ones.
CitizenM hotels in London and Paris have gifted almost 800 unused electronic tablets to a number of hospitals across both cities, and the devices are now being distributed amongst the patients who need them, including those with Covid-19, children separated from parents, the elderly and the terminally ill.
Some of the iPads, which would otherwise have been used by the Netherlands-based company as in-room ‘MoodPads’ (controlling lights, televisions, etc.) will also be handed out to ambulance workers, who use them to access vital patient information while out on call.
In a bid to halt the spread of the deadly virus, most hospitals in the UK and abroad have stopped all visits for the foreseeable future, meaning current patients are almost entirely reliant on technology in order to keep in touch with their relatives.

Robin Chadha, citizenM’s chief marketing officer, said: “It is more important than ever to stay strong together, and yet the current circumstances don’t allow us to do so freely. In that spirit, we hope this small act will help some of our local communities stay connected with their loved ones during these strange and unprecedented times.”
In London, the iPads have been collected by representatives from several NHS trusts and divided between a number of hospitals, including King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital, Guy & St Thomas’, North Middlesex University Hospital, Royal London Whitechapel, Royal Brompton & Harefield.
In Paris, the tablets have been handed out to Hôpital Lariboisière, Hopital Avicenne, Hôpital Salpetrière, Hôpital Bichat, La Roseraie elderly home by two French support networks, Besoin and Protège ton Soignant.

Restored to factory settings, the iPads will be uploaded with FaceTime to allow video calls, as well as games and educational apps to keep their users entertained.
